Quicktime gamma issues

Ok, so I think I've finally sorted the horrible washing out of h.264 Quicktimes - I had read that to fix it you:

Go to the movie's properties in Quicktime Pro, go to the Visual Settings tab of the video track, change the Transparency to 'Blend', set the slider to 100%, switch the Transparency back to Straight Alpha, scrub the timeline and save the QT.

It didn't work.

Now what I have found certainly does work is export the Quicktime as a 100% Motion-JPEG encoded movie, and then from Quicktime Pro export that as h.264. This looks pretty much just like the original (gamma-wise).

Wahoo! I fell in love with this at the Pixar exhibition in London! Now I don't have to explain it (although even these pics & movies still don't do it true justice - it was just incredible)

The Pixar Zoetrope

Looking through my files I stumbled upon this movie of the 3D Zoetrope from Pixar's exhibition at the NYC MoMA earlier this year, and I realized that it probably hasn't been posted anywhere. So here it is! It's a 4.2 MB mp4 movie, and of course it doesn't approximate in the least how cool this contraption looks in person. This is real 3D animation. There's plenty more information on the Zoetrope and the rest of the exhibit (which I believe is in London now) at the Luxo Blog.

Just one word: Ohmygodthatwasabsolutelyincredible. It’s a new wildlife series by the BBC which has the most amazing photography I’ve ever witnessed. Ever seen a giant great white shark leap completely out of the water with a seal in its mouth shot at what appears to be 5000fps? I have to admit I don’t see that sort of stuff all that often. I guess it helps to have a helicopter and an HD camera that can shoot up to 1.5 kilometres away.

This is going to be great to have on HD-DVD / DVD / Betamax to view with the future grandkids to show them what the planet was like before the subsequent melting / flooding / overheating / <insert impending global catastrophe here>…

Awesome.
